چکیده

One of the main activities of the Centre for Topographic Information in Sherbrooke (CTIS) is distributing digital topographic data (DTD) of the Canadian landmass. For a number of years, customers have been able to obtain DTD by contacting the CTIS Customer Support Group. The team has established a procedure for processing orders and delivering products to customers. CTIS has used new Internet technologies to develop a system that enables users to search, consult, order, pay and download a variety of digital products quickly, efficiently, and fully automatically 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Users are able to access the data distribution system using their Internet browsers. The interface consists of a series of HTML pages that guides the customer in selecting the data that correspond to his needs. The user's completed request is transmitted to a transaction server, which extracts, converts, and delivers the data. The extracted data may come from a variety of sources, including spatial databases and files. Moreover, they can be converted into different transfer formats, and different coordinate systems before being delivered to the user's individual directory on the CTIS FTP site. The system has been deployed on a 3-tier architecture that ensures autonomy between the various system components, secure access to data sources, minimal processing on the client side, and easy system expandability in response to demand. In conclusion, CTIS's future plans with respect to the distribution of topographic data will be presented. This discussion will include new formats and products that will be integrated into the current site, as well as new technologies that bring the development towards services to display and access geospatial information.

Landforms identification using neural network-self organizing map and SRTM data

During an 11 days mission in February 2000 the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) collected data over 80% of the Earth's land surface, for all areas between 60 degrees N and 56 degrees S latitude. Since SRTM data became available, many studies utilized them for application in topography and morphometric landscape analysis. Exploiting SRTM data for recognition and extraction of topographic ...

Improved Topographic Normalization for Landsat TM Images by Introducing the MODIS Surface BRDF

In rugged terrain, the accuracy of surface reflectance estimations is compromised by atmospheric and topographic effects. We propose a new method to simultaneously eliminate atmospheric and terrain effects in Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) images based on a 30 m digital elevation model (DEM) and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) atmospheric products. Moreover, we define a norm...

Land use changes detection and spatial distribution using digital and satellite data, case study: Farim drainage basin, Northern of Iran

Land use change may influence many natural phenomena and ecological processes, including runoff, soil erosion, sedimentation and soil conditions. Decreasing of forest area in the North of Iran is one of the critical problems in recent years. The aims of this study are to detect land use changes between 1967 to 2002 using satellite images of Land Sat 7 ETM+ (2002), aerial photos and digital topo...

An Implementation of Automatic Contour Line Extraction from Scanned Digital Topographic Maps

This paper proposes a method of implementation of automatic contour line extraction from scanned digital topographic maps. First, color image segmentation is executed to recognize the features on digital topographic maps, second, morphological and filtering operations are presented to eliminate all unwanted information from digital topographic map except from contour lines. Then, resolving the ...
